Your first massage? You'll be comfortable here.
A first-time massage or reflexology session can sometimes feel awkward—it is a personal experience. Working with a professionally-trained massage therapist will put you at ease. Becket’s years of experience and gentle demeanor is reassuring.
She is always open to questions and suggestions, and will help you feel comfortable throughout your massage session.
Dress in loose clothing.
If you will be receiving bodywork for which you will not be removing your clothing, you will be more comfortable during the session if your clothing is not constricting in any way.
If you will be receiving massage therapy or bodywork for which you will remove your clothing, you may find it easier to dress in loose clothing after your massage when you are in a relaxed state.
Massage sessions typically involve techniques done directly on the skin. For the best experience, you’ll want to remove as much clothing as you are comfortable with. You will be covered by a sheet and blanket and only the area of your body being worked on will be uncovered at any given time.
What a Healthful Touch session is like.
All sessions take place in a private therapy room separate from the reception area. Becket will let you know how to prepare for your session, including the removal of clothing if necessary and how you should position yourself on the massage table. Becket will then step out of the room for a few minutes to allow you to get comfortable and settled under the sheet and blanket on the massage table.
When you’re ready, Becket will go over the massage with you before beginning. You will receive her complete attention during your massage and you are always in control. Should you feel uncomfortable at any time or want to alter a technique, please don’t hesitate to let her know.
This is your session and it should be completely comfortable for you.
If you have music that you find relaxing to listen to, feel free to bring it with you.
Healthful Touch has a wide variety of music available from which you are welcome to choose. Or if you would prefer no music during your session, that is fine as well.
During your session, Becket will let you know if there’s anything you need to do.
If your therapy session requires work on both the front and back of your body, she will ask you to roll over when it’s time to do so. You will be completely covered by the sheet as you do this. She may also ask you to focus on your breathing during therapy or ask you for feedback on your comfort level. Otherwise, you may just relax and she will take care of the rest.
You are welcome to talk during your massage if it helps you relax and feel more comfortable during the session, but you may relax more fully and enjoy your session more if you leave your cares at the door and give your full attention to how your body feels during the therapy, sending your awareness to any areas of tension and asking them to relax.
After the massage, feedback and some water.
After the hands-on portion of your session is completed, Becket will leave the room so you can dress. Take your time getting up. If you sit up or stand up too quickly you may feel lightheaded or dizzy.
Once you are dressed, return to the reception area. Becket will provide water, and will wrap up by discussing your session: how you are feeling, how your goals were addressed, and the progress made.
Follow-up sessions can be scheduled based on your treatment plan or as desired.
